Full Bill Name: An Act creating documentation requirement standards to demonstrate a disability for a public institution of higher education in the Commonwealth
Current Status: Read more.
Background: Currently, there are no consistent requirements across Massachusetts higher education institutions for what level of documentation is needed to receive accommodations for disabilities. Many schools require a recent evaluation within the last 3-7 years, which does not need or feasible in many cases for families. Consistent criteria and processes would enable a more equitable allocation of accommodations to students who require them.
What this bill does: This bill would address the disparities in our public higher education institutions in the Commonwealth that have different standards and procedures for demonstrating a disability. This legislation would standardize that process by creating a universal and equitable framework for students across all public institutions.
