Gentile compared glyphosates to PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl, chemicals, noting the strong stance government has taken on the substances that have been used in a number of products like cookware and makeup. Scientists have found a connection between PFAS and cancers, thyroid problems and a slew of other health issues. "The public and politicians haven’t had the political will," Gentile said, "to press against glyphosate in the same way they’re pressing against PFAS."

“The company still sells Roundup to pesticide companies, and the farmers are still using it,” Gentile said. “A few years ago, I went out to a cranberry bog, and a former legislator, who is now a lobbyist, came over to me and said, ‘Oh, you know, all the cranberry growers use glyphosate.’ We’ve been growing cranberries in the Commonwealth for centuries long before glyphosate was invented, so it’s not impossible to produce all of these foods without the use of glyphosate.”
