Full Bill Name: An Act authorizing remote participation at town meeting
Current Status: Read More.
Background: Open Town Meeting is a cherished part of local democracy in Massachusetts. One downside, however, is that Open Town Meeting currently excludes many registered voters, including those with caregiving duties, certain disabilities, evening work shifts, early morning jobs, or other scheduling conflicts. Massachusetts already allows for remote participation in public meetings.
Endorsements: The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Municipal Association, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
What this bill does: H.2274 would create a local option for communities with Open Town Meetings to allow remote participation.
