H.2533 - An Act relative to death benefits to surviving spouses of call and volunteer firefighters

Current Status: Read more.

Senate Bill: S.1652 - Senator Jamie Eldridge. Read more.

Background: The Commonwealth relies on call and volunteer firefighters to protect property and life. However, state laws passed in 2014 regarding death benefits for the families of firefighters contain errors and omissions that have treated call and volunteer firefighters unfairly.

What this bill would do: H.2533 and S.1652 would provide a local option that would have to be approved at town meeting, which would improve some death benefits for surviving spouses of call and volunteer firefighters.
