Full Bill title: An Act to continue the Citizens Commission concerning a Constitutional Amendment to secure the government of the people.
Current Status: Read More.
Background: In the 2018 general election, over 71 percent of voters in Massachusetts cast their ballots in favor of Question 2, in support of creating a Citizens’ Commission to research, report, and issue recommendations on how to advance a constitutional amendment to undo the political financial corruption spawned by Citizens United. Rep. Gentile served on the Commission as one of Speaker DeLeo’s appointees on the Commission, which met 20 times and released two detailed reports, which you can find below.
What this bill does: H.3819 is a technical fix to the governing statute for the Citizen's Commission, which would allow for vacancies on the commission to be filled. The bill also modifies the guidelines for reporting and scope that were established under the 2018 measure to facilitate the creation of future reports.
